“So, you knew my brother?”
Stratt nodded curtly. “Yes, Dr. Ryland Grace. I was one of his superiors during his time working on Project: Hail Mary.” Eva swallowed, “I’m…sorry for your loss. Your brother is remembered as a hero.”
"Yeah. I guess I never thought he’d,” Colt swallowed, “I never thought something bad would happen to him. He went to college. He got a doctorate. Save for a very brief party phase during his undergrad, Ryland was the safe one. I, on the other hand, jumped off buildings and got set on fire for a living.”
Stratt pondered this information. “I was under the impression that you were dead. There was a news report circulating. Dr. Grace was,” she paused, choosing her next words carefully, “distraught.”

Stratt is forced to face the consequences of her actions in the form of the family that was left behind to mourn Dr. Ryland Grace after she sent him to space against his will: a twin brother, whom she believed to be dead, and his daughter.

When Colt Seavers looked over his shoulder, he felt the wound open again.
He blinked a few times, inhaling shakily as he looked back in front of him. His suit suddenly felt wrong, his tie was too tight around his neck, his shoes were too small, and everything felt wrong.
Because Ryland wasn’t there. Ryland was supposed to be there.

A glimpse into Colt's life, and how one carries the grief of losing a sibling. Trying to celebrate all of life's big moments while knowing your other half is no longer there to celebrate them with you. You start to unconsciously leave a space for them in your life.

“Oh my God,” Ryland whispered.
He stumbled backwards, collapsing onto the floor of the lab with a resounding thud as Rocky screeched, scrambling over to him. Ryland brought his knees to his chest, burying his face in his hands.
“Why Grace fall, question? Grace okay? Grace say Grace okay!”
“I’m- I’m okay, Rocky, I just-” he whispered, feeling a sense of guilt pool in his stomach as something else made the hairs on his arms stand on end. “I- I have a brother. Colt is my brother. How could I-” he felt a tear trickle down the side of his face- “How could I forget my twin brother?”
Or-
During an argument about who is going to risk themselves to retrieve the predator collector, Grace finds that he's had an argument with someone this stubborn before, and it's only a matter of time before that name slips out, bringing back the flood of memories that come with it.
