    Stede sits down to read his nightly bedtime story to the crew of the Revenge, only to discover that Lucius has saddled him with a particularly trashy novel in which a gentleman and a pirate begin a hot and heavy romance. Ed has been on board for several weeks, and everyone is sick of the slow burn and apparently ready to shove them down the path to a real romance by whatever means they can.

    As Stede reads (and tries to work out who the author of the story might be), they'll bicker their way through romance tropes, story structures, and what it means to have a happy ending. And if by the end of this night Edward Teach isn't in Stede Bonnet's bed, Lucius will probably have to eat his match-making hat...

    Fang Duobing smiles, “Lao Di will join us in four days’ time. He’ll help us finish packing your things and we can all go south together before the cold.”
    “He’ll be coming to help you kidnap me, you mean,” Li Lianhua grouses, resigned. “You’re both traitors.”
    Fang Duobing rolls his eyes. “Yes, forgive us for this horrible affront of wanting to ensure you live safely through the winter with enough coal and food to be comfortable.”
    “I’m neither a child, nor an invalid, you know.”
    “Not an— Li Lianhua! You were unconscious and lethargic for six weeks, less than three months ago! What if you got snowed in all the way up here while the roads were impassable? What if you get sick, suddenly? What if—” he cuts himself off abruptly and exhales hard through his nose. “Enough, I’m not having this conversation again.”

    Despite all odds, Li Lianhua has survived his ordeal with the Bicha poison. But surviving is one thing; truly living is something else entirely, and a lot more work. He'll do it, though. (Fang Duobing and Di Feisheng aren't giving him a choice.)

    A broken, disillusioned Steve Rogers is afflicted by a delusion that the mysterious assassin who nearly killed him is actually his best friend, who died 70 years ago. SHIELD wants to lock him up and return him to being a perfect, sparkling nationalist symbol as quickly as possible. Sam Wilson, who has wrestled with his own disillusionment and his own ghosts, knows that Steve needs compassion and the support of a true friend, not a forced regime of recovery that takes away what is left of his shattered autonomy.

    Meanwhile, as Natasha tries to track down the Winter Soldier, her discoveries get more and more disturbing. She uncovers footage of the Soldier being subjected to, and forced to commit, horrific acts to maintain Hydra's cruel hierarchy. What's more, his resemblance to Steve's dead friend is too close to be coincidence. Sam and Natasha grow determined to stop the Soldier from being recaptured by his abusers, but how will Steve react when he learns the true extent of the Soldier's torture, and the true horror of what he was twisted into?
