Summary

It startles a real laugh out of Yusuf. "Who knows? Sometimes, Nicolò, I think I must have dreamed you entirely."
After escaping the fall of Jerusalem together, Yusuf walks away from Nicolò in order to return home and move on with his life. It works for a while. Fifteen years later, Nicolò shows up in his dreams of the two immortal women.

Summary
Elodieunderglass started all this by talking about Killie and O Holy Thunder on tumblr. And then posting a sketch of O Holy Thunder as a dragon. To which I said:
"Temeraire setting would mean that O Holy Thunder's name is Killie's fault, right? Would Killie be from a dragon dynasty family, or did this tiny Irish bastard accidentally hatch and name a dragon?"And then this story haunted and vexed me for 5 days until I wrote it in one afternoon.

When they met new people who were woefully ignorant of birds, there was sometimes the penetrating academic argument to be had about whether a songbird, particularly one who weighed about the same as two shilling coins, was a particularly masculine and appropriate soul for a soldier; these were always interesting arguments, because Harper himself weighed about the same as any two soldiers, and furthermore was extremely interested in educating people about birds.
