    Summary

    Bilbo was choking.
His lungs burned with the acrid tang of smoke. Through his streaming eyes, the harsh light of enchanted fires and the glint of dirty orc steel blurred and swam in the darkness. The panicked yells of the dwarves, helplessly clinging to the falling pine tree, were a bold clash against the shrieking cacophony of snapping roots, fierce Warg howls, and the popping of the flames. Above all that, Bilbo heard the sound of Thorin’s skull crunching against stone, his body falling limp against the dry ground. A spike of sharp fear jolted through Bilbo’s chest, and his troubled breathing hitched.
    No.

    ***

Bilbo takes a leap of faith during the pine tree altercation between the company and Azog, and the repercussions that follow force all the members of the company to re-evaluate the worth of their burglar.

    One dwarven king included.

    Summary

The worst thing about lost love is that eventually you forget. You forget the exact colour of their eyes and what their voice sounds like when they laugh. You forget about the gestures they make most often or how they look when they focus. You forget the sound of their voice altogether and the colour of their hair and slowly slowly slowly, you forget everything but a name that can pierce your heart. It slowly ebbs in time, until the name and fuzzy memory is nothing more than a feeling, a dull hollow chasm where nothing remains, and it feels like there’s a piece missing, a part of you that you can never receive back. Looking into those eyes again was like plunging into arctic cold water. Bilbo had to stop himself from making an audible gasp. He felt his mouth dry, and a dull ache surface as a deep voice spoke with a controlled and cold demeanor. “You must be the burglar.”

    Summary

Bilbo Baggins had walked this earth a total of eight times in his past. He did remember them all, in some form or another, though he could rarely recall their names or faces, or very much detail about their lives at all. He always remembered their deaths, though. And he always remembered how it was someone – a well-meaning wizard, for instance – that had shown up and enticed or blackmailed him away from his home and family to go off and die for the good of the world.

Much like what was happening now.

Or: How the dragon soul of Bilbo Baggins made a deal with Manwë and can't seem to escape the consequences, and Thorin Oakenshield looks far too much like one of Bilbo's dead husbands.

    Summary

And so came it to pass that Durin the Deathless, First of Dwarrow-kind, the Eldest of the Seven Fathers, King of Khazad-dûm, found himself unrelentingly bound to a small chunk of blue stone pocketed by one Belladonna Took on her journey home from a well accomplished adventure.

Years, and multiple adventures later, Belladonna Took – by then Belladonna Baggins – settled into Bag End, and gave birth to a child named Bilbo Baggins, to whom this stone was always meant to belong.

It is with this one small Hobbit that the ghostly Durin is to change the tides of Middle Earth, save his legacy, and rewrite this unwritten history before them.

Additionally/And/Or: In which Durin the Deathless does not accept the finality of his lineage and submits his complaints to Mahal and Yavanna.

Becoming glued to a rock and a Hobbit was not part of his request, but he was Too Vague and forgot to Read the Fine Print.

Also, Hobbits are far too endearing even to Ancient Mostly Dead Monarchs.

Finally, and most importantly, to any Dwarf asking, it isn't technically breaking any rules if the ghost beside you works as a translator for super secret Dwarvish languages.
