    It had been almost torturously upsetting how they had agreed to accept different opportunities from one another to establish the two of them as their own, separate artists. It made sense logically, of course it did. But at that moment, logic didn't matter much to his heart that was probably losing out on 5 to 10 years of lifespan with each puff of his cigarette. Though he thought the stress he felt from not being around his emotional support person in life would have cost him at least 20 years instead. So, he was going to take what he got. And right now, what he got could only be the faint scent of him seeping into his non-existent pores in smoke form.

    Torturous.

    Ilya ignored the request from the NHL twice. The first time they asked through his agent, the second time the director of marketing called his personal number directly. He never got along with the league as a player, and he certainly didn't need to make them happy now.

    The next attempt to reach him was harder to ignore. A phone call from an unknown number. A voicemail that made his blood run cold.

    "Hi Ilya. This is Rose Landry. We've never met, but Shane speaks so highly of you. I think the NHL has been trying to get in touch. Shane said you probably wouldn't talk to them. But...think about it, ok? I know it would mean a lot to him."

    The final request crumbled his resolve. The caller ID blinked "Jane," and Ilya stared at it.

    Shane bit his lip, and Ilya found his eyes fixating on his plush mouth. Ilya would have to organize a line, complete with a velvet VIP rope the first time he took Shane out on the town to get laid. He was stunning, and he seemed to have yet to realize it.
