Summary
Law wasn’t sure of when exactly he heard it for the first time. He didn’t know if it was even said to him or if the Straw Hats had just passed it to each other in a jovial tone. But it went around and it earnt a laugh or a smile, as it always did, and it made Law’s blood boil. Because he knew it wasn’t true and yet, impossibly, his crew didn’t. His own crew didn’t know and held fast to one simple truth:
He’ll be fine; it’s Luffy.

Summary
At the sound of the door opening, Hongo was on his feet in an instant, hand wrapped around his Bo Staff in preparation for an attack, only to pause at the sight before him bewildered. "Luffy?"
Sniffles escaped Luffy as another rumble wracked through him. "Tio my tummy is angry, it hurts."
Panic surged through Hongo as he rushed forward, picking up Luffy with ease and placing him on the bed. Panic surged through him at the tears, Luffy rarely cried and when he did it was loud and angry. But this was not that, this was something new and if it caused Luffy to come here willingly well it must be bad.
He will think about the Tio comment later.

Summary
Someone yells something about a battleship being commandeered, then, and Ace veers over towards it, absently grabbing Luffy’s arm and directing him towards the ship. He keeps running, sending fire every which way, forcing his tears and emotion down, but…
He doesn’t notice Luffy falling behind slightly.
And then-
Luffy stumbles and falls.
And doesn’t get up.
“Shi- Luffy!” Ace curses, hurriedly sending a wave of fire towards those in front of him and sprinting back to Luffy.

Summary
He’s not close enough. He’s not going to make it. Even if he managed to shake off the soldiers in front of him and just threw his whole body at full-speed between Luffy and Akainu to take the blow, he wouldn’t get there fast enough. He doesn’t have enough time. He’s going to lose another brother, only this time it’s going to happen right in front of his eyes, from seven—five—three feet away.
He’s ten years old again and learning what grief is. He’s ten years old and all that’s left of Sabo is the letter in his hand and a shared dream and the promise that Ace will look after their silly baby brother while he’s gone.
“DON’T TOUCH HIM!” Ace screams. It’s pure desperation. It’s the last human thing he’ll ever say if Luffy dies here.
