Summary
After the noose, something changes.
“Jesus,” Hans says, incredulity finally snapping his control in two, “what has gotten into you?”
Henry’s head jerks back. “What?”
“You!” Hans says, waving his hands as if to encompass all of Henry. “Why are you being so...” Hans clicks his teeth together. The words jumble and flutter in his head: subservient, obedient, coolheaded, patient, forgiving, why did you stick around even when I told you to go?
“Kind,” Hans finally settles on, weakly.

Summary
They had left so much unsaid, and the weight of it seems to hang heavy in the spring air. Tomorrow we’ll be home, and tomorrow we can sort it all out. Isn’t that what Henry had told him, curled up, naked, in their hidden corner of Nabokov? What a bloody fool he’d been. Not a damn thing is guaranteed in this war, especially not tomorrow. The next morning, von Bergow’s men attacked the fortress, Hans had been taken prisoner, and that was that. They haven’t had as much as moment alone together since.
Reuniting at the Devil's Den after weeks of separation, Hans and Henry grapple with what happened between them the evening before Hans' capture.

Summary
There was only one Silver Skalitz in Bohemia, and it had already burned to the ground.
It stood to reason that there was only one Henry of Skalitz in the world, too.
No more painful feeling exists than realizing you're in love with a dead man. (Even if you still don't know this particular agony is called love.)
Or: while Hans Capon languishes at Maleshov Fortress, he denies the truth--that Henry was captured, tortured, and killed by Istvan Toth--to himself for as long as he can, until it becomes inescapable.
Set during the canon KCD 2 storyline; spoilers for the Taking French Leave quest.
