Summary
There had been tension before, but in the absence of a contract and an implicit reason to be together, the knowledge that Wolfwood had searched for two and a half years and tracked Vash down of his own volition, and the knowledge that Vash had dreamed of Wolfwood during their years apart, even when the trauma from the July incident was so powerful that it washed out Vash’s memories of almost everything else…
Tension is putting it lightly. They’ve been closer. They’ve been—fucking feels far too crude of a word for it, even in Wolfwood’s own head. What he feels for Vash is too powerful to be written off as… attraction. Desire. Though both of those are certainly present as well. They haven’t actually put a real word to it—saying that they’re dating skews a little juvenile after everything they’ve been through, though, Wolfwood supposes, not in the worst way imaginable—but they’re close. Closer than two people who just mutually want to jump each others’ bones.
Wolfwood does want to jump Vash’s bones, though. Actually, he kind of wants Vash to get angry at him.

His hair is tousled, washed and soft looking as it curls around his cheeks, his weathered face looking gentle in the artificial light. He’s wearing an oversized sweater that exposes his collarbones, sweatpants that are slung low on his hips, and his feet are clad only in a dark pair of socks. He has a tray of food in his hands, and Vash watches as his fingers clench around the metal so hard that it shakes under the pressure.
“Hey.” Vash breathes.
(Or, Vash wakes up at home. Wolfwood is there with him.)

He thinks about Vash’s finger slipping. About his head becoming chunks of brain matter stuck to this scratchy comforter, about the motel maid having to pick up the pieces of him. What a fate for a freed bird. Fight so hard and still die like a dog, stuck under the thumb of another master. It couldn’t happen—neither of them would let it happen, his vials tucked safely on the nightstand, but the idea of it drives him insane with want.
