He leaned in slightly instead, tightening his hold just enough to keep George steady. “Focus on me,” he says, voice soothing. “Stay with the breathing. You’re doing fine”, that wasn’t actually true but he has to let George think it is.

George stood on the podium, Italian anthem playing, and didn’t flinch when he didn’t see his team waiting for him underneath. Lewis was beaming, despite the Nico Rosberg of it all, and Lando was just happy to be there with all the mechanical failures of the year.
George also would’ve been happy to be there after the unlucky streak of the last few races, but apparently celebration wasn’t something that was owed to him.
“Nothing is owed to you dickhead” had said Max one time, back in March “you have to take it. Do you expect things to be handed to you, Russell?”
