Summary
“This will not be pleasant for you,” he rasps, “once we begin, I will not be able to stop.”
You study his flushed body, his ragged breaths, and solemn eyes. You try to find the violent, rabid creature the elders warned you about, but all you’re met with is a question.
You close the distance between you two, and whisper, “Then don’t.”
Or, every hundred years, the dragon protecting your valley demands a mate to join him in his lair, never to return. Certain events compel you to volunteer yourself, but nothing could have prepared you for what awaited you on the mountain.

Summary
This time Wen Kexing wakes with the skin of his ribs still burning, where he’d dreamed of A-Xu tracing each ridge with the edge of Wen Kexing’s fan. It had been a game, Wen Kexing keeping still under A-Xu’s steady hand, hardly breathing so that he could get the lines right. It had made sense, in the dream, as painting practice. The result was beautiful, red flowers blooming out of Wen Kexing’s skin, reaching up towards the sun. A-Xu had plucked one, and kissed the petals, his mouth coming away bloody; Wen Kexing had taken another and put it in A-Xu’s hair.
A-Xu would probably be willing to repeat the experiment with ink and a brush. That would be its own kind of fun. Wen Kexing isn’t so sure about the knife.

Summary
He is the drunker one this time, which is good—Wen Kexing tends to pull back into something small and big-eyed when he drinks too heavily, his mouth going sullen like a child’s. Tugged sleeves, impossible questions. Tonight, instead, they had been talking about—about the good part of raising kids, the funny parts of it, and the ways in which camping under open skies were better than inns, and about jerking off. Wen Kexing has long since collapsed in upon himself into something lax and amused, leaning his head on his hand, limbs askew.
“You’ve never wondered, A-Xu? I am almost offended,” Wen Kexing says in the shape of laughter.
