But it didn’t matter at all. Lestat was scared and miserable and he had a tail and he needed to see him.

Summary
Whatever carefully blank expression Lestat is trying on disappears like a slap. “Armand made a fledgling. Why would he do that?” Lestat asks.
“Oh, you know,” Louis says, watching the three dots of a new text pop up. “He knew Daniel was… important to me.”
He means to say it with rueful annoyance, as if to say, “so he ruined him.” But as Daniel’s text comes in—the most important question I should have asked you in that fucking interview: where do you buy coke in Dubai?—Louis’s voice trails off, his words maybe lacking some of the bite.

Lestat misunderstands what Daniel is to Louis and tries to be a champ about it. Meanwhile Louis rediscovers his drug of choice—Lestat.

Summary
He’s almost to his car when he gets a text from Daniel, who seems to think stalking Lestat is a fun new hobby everyone should get in on: “Hey do you think this is about you?” and a link.
He listens. Thrice. First, a general sense of insult overtakes him. The second time, he decides Lestat is going on about the same bullshit as always—you’re red, I’m blue, quite a rush to the altar, chéri—third, he thinks he might hear Lestat being sad at the end there, and his heart aches. He does, in fact, think this is about him. Actually, Louis thinks it is so much about him, he’s already looking up Lestat’s tour schedule and calling his pilot. If Lestat wants to play, he's got a game for him.
Or: Louis gets mad, even, and in over his head. Lestat's (not) really sorry, he wants to give Louis a present. Some cycles break, some remain the same.

—if there’s an antennae or something I have to fucking adjust but, Louis de Pointe du Lac please tell me you can fucking hear this—
Louis is too shocked to respond immediately. The voice is faint, but it’s not hard to extrapolate when he’d been listening to it dissect his entire undeath for the more tumultuous part of the past month. All he can blurt, both out loud and through the connection, is, “Daniel?”. Lestat squawks something from the shower.
Thank fuck, Daniel answers, bright with relief. Then a moment of long silence.
So. Slight, uh. Hiccup.
Louis takes the confirmation with all the grace of a brick shattering through a window. “No,” he says, “no, he didn’t.”

He felt the pulse of his hunger quicken, and his mouth parted without volition. Something inexplicable passed over Lestat’s face as he held his gaze, eyes wide with anticipation.
Louis was upon him in an instant, teeth sinking into his flesh with a ferocity he had not felt since that night in the church, his thirst an unquenchable and animal thing. And Lestat allowed it, a lamb at the altar, no resistance—just a hand tenderly placed across Louis' chest as he was devoured.

Daniel would see him most nights after rehearsal out on the balcony of whatever hotel they were staying at that night, that week, depending on the number of shows. Moonlight bouncing off his hair and making it look lighter than it was. Sometimes he’d smoke, but lately he’d just been standing still. Statue-like but not statuesque, nothing romantic about the position. Daniel thought he looked plastic like that, unmoving, dressed up all strange and colorful like a little girl’s Ken doll. Sharp lines and shadows on a wide jaw, hands held unnaturally still at his side, eyes focused on something, though Daniel was never sure what.

For a second, the cool air of the fan hit the skin of his neck like a balm. A shiver ran down his back and Daniel thought it was relief, from the heat, the itchiness, the stares. It was actually the beginning of the end, and Daniel just had no fucking clue.
“What is that?” The voice, his voice, broke the stillness. Cut through it. Swiftly, elegantly, leaving no bloody mess behind. Lestat sounded mocking, sharp, like he'd wanted it to hurt.
“What?” Daniel turned back around to face him; continuing to show him his back, the fragile bend of his neck, felt too dangerous.
“On your neck. What is that on your neck, Daniel?”
__________________________Years after that disastrous interview in San Francisco, Daniel Molloy is working as a music journalist in Los Angeles and is tasked with interviewing rock 'n' roll's newest enfant terrible, Lestat de Lioncourt.
It wouldn't be an issue, if it weren't for the scar on his neck. Two rows of teethmarks, the gnarly outline matching that of Lestat's husband's mouth.
A second chance encounter for Daniel. A second chance at uncovering the dangerous, dark memories he has forgotten, or been made to forget.

Louis looks up from his newspaper at that, his beautiful green eyes passing over his form as though just noticing he was dressed in something other than his smoking robe. Once, Louis could scarcely keep his hands off a Lestat dressed in proper 20th century attire for a night on the town, and he remembers that many a plan had been postponed or outright forgotten for more carnal, intimate endeavors.
“So if my considerable considerables continue to be squandered…”
Lestat pauses a moment, expectant, but after a beat, Louis turns his remorseless gaze back to his research. Lestat feels the scowl tighten his face before he’s fully aware of it himself, takes up his jacket again, and crosses their loveless bedroom to meet his loveless lover down below.
“Wait.”
