He looks down and there's Steve, clutching his backpack to his chest, fully dressed.
"Can I-" Steve starts, voice a little wobbly, "can I call my nanny to come get me?"
Wayne blinks, dish towel still in one hand, soda can in the other. “Thought you were stayin’ the night.”
"I don't really feel well." Somehow, he doesn't believe that's the reason.
He crouches down to get to eye level with Steve, who's shyly looking everywhere but his face. "You sure you don't just want some water? I think Eddie'll be upset when he wakes up and sees you're gone."
The boy in front of him just shakes his head quickly, a little too quickly. "I just want to go home."

Eddie sighed and tossed the rag aside. “I’m not being weird. The kid’s just… suspicious, okay? Nobody shows up in a spotless Beemer, looking that good, just to take a desk job in this dump for minimum wage. He’s digging for something, I can feel it.”
Chrissy raised a brow. “Digging for what, exactly?”
He hesitated. “Hell if I know. Me?”
She stared, then snorted. “Right. The feds finally figured it out. Send in some pretty boy in tight jeans to make you confess.”
Eddie tried not to smile, and failed completely. “You joke, but that’s exactly how they’d get me.”
