    Suzuki Jirokichi, general advisor to the Suzuki Financial Corporation, has announced his plans to adopt Kaitou Kid, Japan's local gem-hunting phantom thief, in what may be his biggest act of notoriety yet. Read his and Inspector Nakamori's statements on page 14-

    Kaito, in what he believes is a perfectly reasonable reaction, spits out his juice, and then promptly chokes. Hakuba's pitying pats on the back were not helpful or wanted. The big and bold words scrawled across the front of the newspaper don't change.

    It must be really hard on Kogoro and Ran.

    One day, a few months before a meeting on a rooftop and a conversation about fireworks, Kuroba Kaito got a call.

    Except he was Kaitou KID at that moment, and in the middle of a heist.

    And the call came from one seven year old Conan Edogawa, who was very much stuck in a hole filling with water.

     

    ( or : Conan is stuck in a hole, so he tries to call Ran. He accidentally calls KID instead. )
