Summary
From a young age, Tim is taught to keep a mask of polite indifference, not just in public but in private too. He’s taught that great shows of emotion are uncouth and he needs to be better than that. By the time he’s eighteen, things should be better—he lives with Bruce now, and Bruce has never gotten upset about the other children expressing themselves. But Tim… he just can’t do it. He’s perfectly passive, except for the painful fingernail marks scored into his palms.
It’s fine; he’s got the situation under control. No one has noticed, not even Bruce. But then something happens at school: he rides his skateboard in the hall and ends up running into another student. When the nurse checks him over, he can’t hide his wounds.

Summary
After Tim gets benched for losing too much weight there is a sense of relief that washes over the Bat's. Who hope that this break will help both Tim's physical, and mental health. However their relief is short lived as not long after Tim gets benched his family starts noticing concerning signs that suggest that their Baby Bird's mental health is making an ever increasing plummet.
AKA from the Bat's perspective it looks like Tim is hurting himself/suicidal. Meanwhile from Tim's perspective he's just living his life... Not well mind you, but he's not actively acting against himself.

Right up until Rocky asks another question.

Rocky starts to relax for a split second, but then tightens when something occurs to him.
“Grace crewmates dead when you wake up. You said this, statement. You not even know your own name, remember nothing, see dead bodies, confirm?”
I nod, because if I open my mouth I will gag.
“When last time Grace touch ALIVE human person, question.”
I swallow thickly. I don’t answer aloud because I know Rocky can hear the hitch in my breath. My stomach churns with fresh bile. He senses my vital signs tick over into stress patterns and goes very, very still again.
“Grace. When last time, question.”
I clench my jaw so hard my temples ache, and beg him with my eyes to just stop.
“Grace. Please say not when… when Evil Stratt humans put you to sleep.”
I can taste grass.

“Sleep. I watch,” he warbles from his post at the door. The first thing he’s said to me in hours. We haven’t talked about anything yet, aside from his pushing to prove I wasn’t hiding more contraband. I scowl at him.
“Don’t want to.” I feel like one of my kids with the level of petulance that seeps into my voice. I miss my kids. I miss having a place. I have a place here, I need to accept it’s just… Different. Still, I’m not gonna listen to Rocky right now.
Rocky grumbles at me. “Scientists say Grace hasn’t slept in 32.6 hours.” Jeez, has it really been that long? I don’t think I’ve had an all-nighter that bad since college. “Cognitive impairment begins after only 24. Bad decisions, dangerous thoughts like you mention. Why you are sick.”
“You left me.” I didn’t mean to say that. Too late.
or Grace is having a hard time adjusting to life on Erid, and it only gets worse when Rocky disappears. They work it out.

Turns out, he’s still addicted. But this time, there are no substances involved. He’s doing this on his own, out of sheer will, rooted off his self-hatred. He’s addicted to something else: letting himself deteriorate. Letting himself lay awake late at night in discomfort. Letting himself cry because this is the only thing that gives him a sliver of control. Taking his new chance for granted because self-sabotage has always won over everything else.
