The Cryptozoological Society’s gala is, technically, an RCM assignment. It is also an excuse for Harry and Kim to go party on the precinct’s dime.
“We are not partying, detective. We’re representing the RCM at a community event.” Kim’s shiny dress shoes squeak quietly against the kineema’s pedals as he drives. His black suit jacket sways on a hanger from the roof handhold in the back seat.
“Well, I don’t remember anyone saying I couldn’t represent the precinct and flex my disco moves at this ‘community event’.” Harry shoots Kim with a singular finger gun.

He also had a dimple on his right side that only showed when he smiled, and the tailor was often apt to make Arcade smile just so he could see it.

Summary
Shortly after Boone had started traveling with the Courier, she introduced him to Arcade Gannon. He was smart and sarcastic and a bit of an asshole. Boone liked him, not that he’d ever admit it. It was also obvious that something bad had happened to him before they’d met. Boone had come up with several theories, but it wasn’t until the Courier dragged him to the Fort to talk with Caesar that he found out that the reality was much worse.

Arcade peeked into the guest bedroom. Boone seemed to be alone. Good. He’d told the others to stay away and not tell Boone why. He hoped they could all take directions for once.
Boone sat at the edge of the bed. He tugged at the neck hole of his white tee, peeled the material up his body, then pulled the shirt off and tossed it across the room into the laundry basket. “What’s that look for?”
Arcade stepped in, locked the door, and swirled the cane with a meandering pace towards his lover. “Nothing.” He watched those eyes focus in on the black cane, heard Boone’s breath hitch. He grinned. “Want to know how my day as a spy went?” He pulled off his hat, the one Gary had insisted he wear, and placed it on a hook on the wall. Normally Boone’s beret went there at night, but he had a feeling the hat would move before the night was through anyway.
Boone eyed him with that nervous sort of excitement he sometimes got when he knew he was going to get some, “Yeah. Tell me.”

The little dance men like them had to play just to spend a night together. Assuming that Manny was a man like him, of course. Which, if he was reading everything right, he should be. That, or they were both about to be very unlucky. Arcade smiled. Manny smiled back. All good signs.

Neither the abrupt nature of it, nor the thunderous crash of the door are particularly staggering either. Cause for the vague sense of disbelief, rather, is the man who ruins the serenity.
