Rozanov's lips curl ever upwards once again. He takes Shane's gloved hand in his own and leans forwards into their handshake, gentling tugging Shane closer so that he could lower his head down near Shane's ear. "See you at the draft."
Dozens of cameras flash from the stands the moment they touched. Rozanov had just given the press exactly what they wanted, clamoring over the boards, greedy to push the narrative. Their rivalry wasn't ever about their talent, not really. It was about their biology.Shane Hollander is the first omega drafted into the MLH. This poses multiple problems for him. The biggest being Ilya Rozanov.

Summary
It's been three years since Shane was kidnapped in Montreal before Sochi, and he had discovered the completely healthy coping mechanism of not thinking about it.
He had other, more pressing issues: a third Stanley Cup run, a secret marriage, a murderous fan base, and free agency on the horizon.
The whole kidnapping thing was easy to ignore now. He could almost believe it was just a story that happened to someone else.
Or: Shane and Ilya are just trying to move past it all, and the past says no.

"I don't mean to come here and freak you out," Scott said, though he knew there was no avoiding it. He'd been where they were before. It had felt like he was dying, back then. "I just don't want you to think you're the only ones, okay? There's lots of us."
Their eyes snapped to him in unison, startled and intense. Hollander croaked, "What?"
"There's over sixteen hundred guys in the MLH and AHL," he reminded them, because it had felt improbable to him when he first heard until he remembered the sheer size of the hockey world. "There's — well, we don't know how many of us there are, but there's at least seventeen of us that know each other. Plus you two. We watch out for each other."
His eyes enormous, Hollander asked, "There's, what? A secret underground gay hockey network?"
Scott shrugged. "Yeah, basically."

Ilya and Shane find their way into The Tennis Club, a network of closeted hockey players that hook up - so long as everyone keeps it casual. Which is no problem! They can do casual, right?
