Summary
Ryland Grace finds Simon in the Iron Lung after the events of the movie on the way to Erid. Simon is very unstable, both physically and mentally. He goes from violent to a sobbing, horrified mess several times over, and Grace isn't quite sure what to do. But he wants to help him. Whatever happened to him, he deserves better. Simon struggles to accept this reality. How can love come without a cost? How can he receive aid without the expectation of a favor? Of servitude?

Good god get these boys some therapy. Also Simon has religious trauma that will be a theme. and they're gay but it will be in a aspec way trust. I'm not sure how yet but it's happening.

They recover a strange piece of debris from the atmosphere, and the architecture seems… strangely human… and there’s something inside. Something alive. Holy fucking shit.

Summary
"So he's really paralyzed?" Simon asks.
"Oh? Uh, yeah." Grace turns back to Rocky's sleeping form and gestures broadly at him.
Rocky is curled at the bottom of his tunnel, legs at his sides, body resting on the ground.
Simon nods, looking uncomfortable. "So he won't interrupt."
"Nah, he can't, he's– huh?" Grace fumbles for his glasses in earnest now. His heart rate picks up, but he's sort of hoping he's wildly misinterpreting what he just heard.
"Sit back down." Simon growls as Grace goes to stand up.
Slowly, Grace sits back down on the floor. He looks Simon over again and realizes, with a panicked flutter in his stomach that quickly spreads through his limbs like ice water, that Simon is holding a razor blade.

Grace & Rocky decide to go check out an SOS call. It could have gone better. (Trust me, eventual codependent friendship all around.)

Summary
To be honest, Grace did have his doubts about him.
When the new human first woke up, he punched Grace in the face and tried to run away. He didn’t speak for his first three days of being conscious. Not the best first impression.
Rocky, in the meantime, had one job. He was specifically tasked with building this new human a place to stay. Grace hadn’t made time for blueprints, too busy fumbling the situation that was his first real human in over fifteen years.
Grace didn’t realize ‘please build the new human a place to stay’ would be translated into ‘expand my home! the human will be living with me!’
