Summary
I lived with this hunger long before the Hail Mary. This is nothing new. I’m fine.
Right up until Rocky asks another question.
“When last time you touch other human person skin, question?”
Oh. Oh no. “When I… a few days after I first woke up here.”
Rocky starts to relax for a split second, but then tightens when something occurs to him.
“Grace crewmates dead when you wake up. You said this, statement. You not even know your own name, remember nothing, see dead bodies, confirm?”
I nod, because if I open my mouth I will gag.
“When last time Grace touch ALIVE human person, question.”
I swallow thickly. I don’t answer aloud because I know Rocky can hear the hitch in my breath. My stomach churns with fresh bile. He senses my vital signs tick over into stress patterns and goes very, very still again.
“Grace. When last time, question.”
I clench my jaw so hard my temples ache, and beg him with my eyes to just stop.
“Grace. Please say not when… when Evil Stratt humans put you to sleep.”
I can taste grass.

“What you holding?” He asks and motions to weapon i have aimed at my head, he doesn’t know what’s happening right now…
“Oh it’s uh…an earth device…it makes people happy.” The lie slips out easier than expected, I feel my finger touch the trigger, am I really going to do this? Right infront of him? It won’t matter to me after, I’ll be dead but I don’t want to do that to Rocky. My head argues.

Ryland Grace never really tried to think much about his lack of sleep problem. That is, until he met an alien that insists on watching him sleep.

Yay! Amaze amaze amaze! Rocky and Grace saved the galaxy!
Turns out not all of it.
Ryland Grace goes on an expedition, originally meaning to find a spacecraft, but instead finding some guy who's probably going to die of radiation sickness before he gets to know him.
The Quiet Rapture was the death of all the stars in a certain cluster--the astrophage sapped their light until they disappeared from the sky.
And twenty years too late, Ryland saved 'all' of the galaxy.
Fighting to redeem himself, and trying to get this guy to open up about his past--give him a break!
After all, he hasn't had basic human connection in so long, and some bear hugs from this guy will solve a lot of his problems.It's most definitely not a crush, yes.
Right.
Or: Ryland trauma bonds with Simon and also maybe sorta falls in love.
