Goodnight had started reading out loud to Billy a couple of months into their partnership.
Billy bought the book on his own after nearly a year of riding together. It was already pretty worn, the covers lost at some point and the title leaf soiled with dirty thumb marks but it was thick, like a doorstop, promising to last them a good long while. Billy held it in his hands, turning the dog eared pages over and feeling the soft paper with his fingers before taking it to the counter and putting it with the rest of his supplies.
On the smudged title leaf of the first book he has ever bought he can read two words, and underneath that is says “The Whale”.

The stranger laughs again, the smile bright and loud in every part of his face. He continues walking, like In-ho just successfully passed one of his foolproof tests.
It’s unbelievable.Six years after the death of his wife, In-ho is coerced into a first date with a fellow widow. While it isn’t a complete disaster, it just proves to him what he already knows - he is not ready to move on and probably never will be.

Inho is a lonely, rich, middle-aged man. He has everything anyone could ever want. You name it, he has it.
But he feels empty.
Over a decade after his divorce, he still longs for a partner. In a tipsy, softened haze, he opens the dating app he installed and starts setting up his profile.
Gihun, on the other hand, is reckless and in his late twenties.
He’s been using the app for hookups for years. After a particularly messy one, he scrolls mindlessly for his next thrill and stumbles across Inho’s profile. Something about it feels charming.
