    Summary

The toddler began to cry, and then he started to cough from trying to cry too hard, snot dripping down his face. Another adult came hurrying over to help him to his feet before they went inside to head, presumably, to the nurse’s office.

Loud, chaotic, dirty. Everything that went against Al-Haitham’s standards.

“Working here as what?” Kaveh blinked. “Like admin or something? That’s probably quiet and far enough from kids for you. Though—”

    “No,” interrupted Al-Haitham. “I don’t.”

After getting fired from a prestigious architecture firm, Kaveh moves back to his hometown to raise his five-year-old brother only to find that an old college "acquaintance" is his little brother's kindergarten teacher.

    Summary

“Sybil,” Wriothesley manages to say, lifting an arm weakly to point to his daughter in the creature’s arms. His voice is thin as he pleads, “Her name is Sybil. Please, help her, I’ll do anything. Anything you want, just help her! If this sickness should take me, I beg that you please care for her.”

The creature says nothing and presses a hand to Wriothesley’s chest to make him settle against the moss and furs. Wriothesley goes obediently, too tired to fight the creature or the exhaustion. His eyes fall closed, and he is aware of nothing more.

    Summary

“Paperwork is tedious, I understand, considering how late it is, but with no owner of surrender, we will need a contact for care.”

It’s then that Neuvillette realizes that Wriothesley is absolutely soaked through by the rain. Without a jacket, the dress shirt he wears is translucent, clinging to burly muscle.

“I am so sorry.” Neuvillette lets the paperwork flutter to the desk and drops down to rummage in the lower drawer. “I should have realized sooner that you’d given up your coat for the kits. Here.”

Neuvillette slides a rainbreaker over the counter as well, a peace offering.

    - Neuvillette, a seasoned vet who volunteers at the local animal shelter, has a chance meeting with a devastatingly handsome, albeit rain-drenched, man who comes in with not one, but eight, rescued rabbits - an utterly absurd beginning to what is bound to be a whirlwind romance.

    Summary

He finds himself thinking about Neuvillette’s hands.

Not in a romantic sense. Not exactly. Just… the way he holds them. Still, poised, folded behind his back like a line drawn across a courtroom. Wriothesley wonders if that’s habit or performance. He wonders what it would take to make Neuvillette fidget. He wonders if he ever has.

He wonders what he would do with those hands if he could.

That’s where the thoughts become dangerous.

So, he does the only thing that helps. He writes again.

This one he keeps on his person, tucked in the inner pocket of his coat. Near the badge he never wears and the picture Sigewinne drew of the two of them riding on dolphins. He tells himself it’s for safekeeping.

    That’s a lie.

It’s because he wants to be caught with it.

Or, Wriothesley folds his feelings into paper, again and again.
