Summary

Summary
What if Merlin had made his way to Europe much earlier than he did in "Albus and Emrys"? Well... Probably best that he didn't. In which a surprise Merlin taunts a dark lord at the dark lord's own rally, causes headaches and confusion for most everyone around him, and is handed off to Albus for attempted danger mitigation.
Purely hypothetical - hence not in the series with the other stories.

Summary
Following their tumultuous first year of acquaintance (for context please read book 1: "Albus and Emrys"), Albus and Merlin were again in the relatively quiet Hogwarts castle with the summer staff. Albus did not spend as many days in the lab as he had the previous summer, for several reasons, chief amongst them being Merlin. The elder sorcerer would sometimes take him away from his lab for a break, or for no particular reason. But they had also decided they would hunt dangerous things in the school, a sort of planned daring and recklessness that the two went for with a will. It was characteristic of the sort of men they were that the difference between planned and spontaneous recklessness was slight and mostly arbitrary.

Summary
In 1968, Albus Dumbledore has been Headmaster of Hogwarts for two years, and at a high society function in the Great Hall in the summer, meets an unlikely new ward master, Rowan Emrys, unknowing of what such a meeting will set in motion. Myrddin Emrys, Merlin, has returned to Britain relatively anonymously, more of a person than the great entity the legends would believe, looking for some stability in his life and hoping for a few friends. The two strange and intelligent men begin to circle one another, while outside the castle, Voldemort creates chaos. A story of Albus and Emrys and their growing relationship with one another. Also, about their friends, their students, their separate rolls in the castle, and the growing threat of war outside of it.
(Note: Merlin's history is predominantly based in legend, and I favour HP book canon over whatever the films have going on, but use material from all.)
