“Go ahead, I’d love to see you try and explain yourself out of this one.” L tilted his head to the side, as if he was looking forward to whatever sputtering response Light would make.

“I’m not having some—“ he has to pause to catch his breath. It is easier now, but he won’t tell L that. “—kind of attack, Ryuzaki. You don’t have to give me advice.”
“Whatever helps Light sleep at night,” L mutters to no one.
“Literally,” he adds with a wild smirk. Light hates him. Light’s not even Kira and he’s going to kill him.
“Has anyone ever told you you’re not funny?”
“Light has, on multiple occasions, I believe,” L says, tapping at his chin in fake thought. He’s still talking in third person in a way that reminds Light of Misa, absurdly. Evidently, Light is surrounded by lunatics. “Light also wants to kill me, though, so his opinion can be disregarded.”
…
Light struggles to share a room with L, for reasons that are wholly L’s fault because nothing has ever been wrong with Light ever. In an uncharacteristically empathetic moment, L offers him a truce.

“Sorry,” Light at least had the decency to say that. He thought it might've been the first time he actually said sorry to L and meant it. Of course, Light had apologized before, for mundane things— but it never felt real.
The ashamed feeling in his chest was almost too much. “Sorry,” he repeated. “I… sorry. I'm gross.”
“Hm. I don't think you're gross.” L simply replied, as though he wasn't bothered by Light's whining in the slightest. Why wouldn't he be? Light was revolting, and he was already tainting him. “I like when Light-kun is honest.”
or, light is sick. L takes the initiative. and light might like him a little bit.

Summary
Being chained to Ryuzaki wasn't the worst thing in the world. Of course, Light was annoyed by the arrangement, but what should he do? This was most likely going to prove he was not Kira and had nothing to hide, prove he was innocent and should be working with the Task Force to catch him rather than being investigated himself.
Well, saying he had nothing to hide was a lie. But it wasn't some… supernatural power to kill people with a name and a face. Rather, it was the pain in his ribs that was currently prodding at him, on their third day of chains clattering between them.

There are only tangled sheets, he comprehends, only tangled sheets and skin between them.
The thought tingles pleasantly behind his sternum. Fluttering softly, like hummingbird wings, in tact with his heartbeat, and his chest is strangely, strangely light. And breathing is easy.
Light’s exhale touches his ear, air moist and hot, the most delicate tropical rain causing, now, a shudder, “You were paying me no attention.”
