She stared up at the ceiling as Madame put the other girls to bed. She was always afraid to go to sleep, that’s what happens when every night you're plagued by nightmares. Memories, she wished she could forget. As Madame left and the room was filled with darkness, she closed her eyes, listening to the soft whimpers of some of the weaker girls. A lullaby that reminded her she wasn’t alone.

Shane has dealt with anxiety his whole life, he's pretty sure he was born this way. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean he always deals with it in the best way. He doesn't do it often, less since he and Ilya started whatever it is they were doing for the last decade. After all its harder to hide with Ilya's wandering hands. That doesn't mean it isn't inevitable, the control, the strict ritual, of it is unmatched. It's just been a hard week and anxiety has been buzzing beneath his skin too long and there's a box in his closet he can't stop thinking about. Ilya isn't here to stop him. Its inevitable.
This is me projecting my own experience of anxiety onto Shane Hollander.
