Summary
"You did what?" The old man exclaimed.
"Oh, just a water relay network that uses radio isotopes to power water condensation, and recycles any excess." Venus shrugged, wiping her dirty hand on a rag.
"Who are you, kid?" The man frowned. If it wasn't for her unoffensive stance, he would probably pull a phaser rifle at her.
"Venus." She responded simply. "I am a refugee from a faraway non-federation colony. I'm new here, but where I come from, we always helped each other when we could." Venus said her well-articulated lie, smiling sheepishly.
"I used to be a Starfleet officer for over 55 years, Former Admiral actually, and I've never seen an engineer do things the way you do." The man gave her a fatherly smile. It was a simple action, yet Venus couldn't wrap her mind around it.
"Ah." She looked at the beautiful sky, as clear as it could be. The air held the sweet smell of dandelions; there were no bombs, no fear for one's life.
"You learn a lot of things in war." Venus shrugged, looking down at her dirty sneakers. "Where there's only a thin line between you and death,"
She then tilted her head back, finally, looking the man right in the eye. "It forces you to get creative."
