“Robot,” Yào calls out. “How long — how long was I asleep?”
The robot whirrs. “You have been in a medically induced coma for — one hundred — eighty — one — days,” it reports.
Yào’s not as quick at theoretical maths as Dr. Grace or Ilyukhina, but he’s pretty handy with the normal stuff. One hundred and eighty-one days is … just shy of six months. He runs the numbers again, counts them out slower in his head. It’s the same result.
It’s not enough time. It’s not nearly enough time. It’s not even enough time to be completely out of their fucking solar system.

Summary
Grace is unprepared for the level of love that all of Erid seemed to have for him. It was vaguely terrifying, but also.... nice? To be cared for. To be wanted.
It gets worse when they find out the circumstances of him ending up on the Hail Mary.
When his declining health necessitates a trip back to Earth, he is faced with a planet that loves him so fiercely and wonderfully that it finally starts to break through his crippling lack of self worth and bloom into something incredible.
And Earth? Earth has to deal with an Erid that is polite, protective, and most of all, pissed.

They seemed to be observing the towel, claws tapping against the material with what he took as curiosity, pinching it between the appendage.
Was it Rocky? It’d make sense, the Eridian would certainly have something harsh to say about him leaving his stuff laying around. He always had some mean quip to insult his shoddy human memory.
He opened his mouth to defend himself before Rocky could say something snappy, when the figure then moved, stocky legs rising from beneath their carapace and lifting them to their full standing height.
They were tall. Too tall.
That wasn’t Rocky.

Ryland Grace found the gun on the forty-third day.
He’d been reorganizing the storage bay — not because it needed reorganizing, but because his hands needed something to do and his brain needed something small enough to manage — when his fingers closed around the case at the back of the cabinet. Compact. Heavier than it looked.
He knew what it was before he opened it.
Yao’s gun. Captain Yao, who had died in a coma before the Hail Mary reached Tau Ceti, along with Ilyukhina. Who had carried a gun on the mission for reasons Grace understood too well.

“Is okay Grace, just eat, then sleep, you feel better, then we fix food.” He soothes, and goes back to that same low pitch sound, it’s him just rambling about what he can but it’s in a range that makes me feel instantly calm.
He thinks I’m sick again, for me that was a couple of years ago, so much time for me has passed for me, it was 4.44% of my life ago, for him it was only 1% of his life ago, it just happened to him, the worry and panic may not have even left his nervous system. He also knows so little about humans, maybe with the short space in between he didn’t even have a moment to realize the problem was fixed.
Aka Grace is not sick just bad at eating and Rocky is very bad at copeing.

Summary
For three hours, he’s at the beach, takes off his socks and hikes Ilyukhina’s dress up, and stands in the water. He left the cane on the shore; it hurts to let his frame bear the brunt of gravity unsupported. The reliable tide, just cool enough to chill him a little, laps at his shins.
He closes his eyes and tries to forget about himself, the familiar ache in his joints and spine. Allows himself to imagine something else.
A different truth, a hypothetical, a thought exercise.
Rocky can't bear to lose Grace. But he can bear to watch Grace wither away from a sickness easily cured by Earth medicine even less.
Grace has to make another choice.
Or: After thirteen years on Erid, Grace leaves his true home for Earth. Eva Stratt lives to see him return. Earth takes note of the changes.

"Yis," Grace sighed out, calming down. He still leaked, though.

Summary
On their way back to Erid, Rocky and Grace discover a mysterious box. Upon opening it, the two discover some strange changes. Well, perhaps way more than strange.
Rocky finds a new marking on his arm similar to Grace's scar, and Grace finds markings similar to Rocky's on his arms and legs.
Rocky begins to dream and can easily wake from sleep, and Grace can stay up for much longer than a normal human should.
Grace starts seeing sound when it's too dark to properly see, and Rocky starts seeing pops of colour in his sound vision.
Neither can understand what's happening to them and how they're seemingly linked together, but they know there's nothing in the world that could tear them apart.
(TLDR: This fic will include almost everyone's favourite things! Rocky learns about how Grace got on the Hail Mary (Including Rocky witnessing the memory of Grace being sent on the Hail Mary)! Grace can survive in Rocky's atmosphere! Grace will live as long as Rocky! Rocky and Adrian reuinite and Adrian meets Grace!
