Summary
Alex Miller was not anyone's priority. Always present yet overlooked in her own family, she strives to become “enough”, behaving quietly and independently, leaving no room for weakness. When war comes, it hardens her, makes her cruel: she survives where others break, slowly losing pieces of herself along the way.
The only thing that supports her are letters from an unknown girl who goes by the name Emily. What begins as an unwanted exchange becomes Alex's only proof that she matters to someone. The only reason why she stays afloat and human.
But war leaves marks deeper than flesh. Demons reshape her power and mind, helping her to turn more dangerous than she ever wanted to be. And when the distance between her and the person behind ink disappears, the letters may be not longer enough to keep her at bay.
