Summary
On his way back to Earth Grace starts to notice that things are not all they seem and he might not be as alone as he first thought. Whether his new guest is a God, an alien, a human or something in the middle, Grace is certain that first contact (the second time around) is not going as smoothly as he could have hoped for.
OR Simon thinks Grace is an angel, Grace thinks Simon is a God, they both get weird about it.

There were times after Rocky moved into the Hail Mary when Grace would be hunched over an experiment, struggling to make things work; struggling to find the solution that Tau Ceti held, then struggling to grow nitrogen-resistant Taumoeba faster. Sometimes he would sit staring at the farm-tanks, slouched in his chair with his hands dangling over his knees, and whisper to himself. “Please,” he would say. “Please, please, please.”
“Who is Grace talking to?” Rocky had asked in the stilted way he’d been stuck with at the time.
“No one,” Grace had shrugged. “Or anyone. Anyone who’ll listen.”
Rocky does not understand humans. But now, he sits on the shore of an infant sea, a brand-new constructed world all around him just waiting for its single lonely occupant to take control of it, and wonders if human senselessness is worth a shot.
“Please,” he whispers, running his claw through the water. “Please, please, please.”
The sea does not respond.
Or, what if your friend accidentally catches the attention of a god in hopes of saving you, and that god falls in love with you instead?

Summary
Then he did something Simon wouldn't have expected. He kissed him. A singular kiss planted right on the top of his head, a parting gift as he walked out the door letting it click shut behind him.
The softness of the action lingered with him as he watched Grace walk down to his classroom. A tender warmth radiating from the top of his skull, comforting him down to his bones. Simon hadn't felt this way in an achingly long time.
