    Summary

Viktor is a renowned alchemist in Zaun, the neglected outer district surrounding the affluent and illustrious royal city of Piltover. He is summoned by King Tobias and Queen Cassandra of House Kiramman to help their daughter, Princess Caitlyn, an otherwise strong and healthy young woman who has been stricken by an unknown illness and is near death. At the palace, Viktor meets Jayce, the only surviving member of House Talis, who serves the monarchy as the royal blacksmith. Viktor has seen and healed wounds inflicted by the very weapons Jayce designs and forges, so their interactions start rather tense.

The longer Viktor studies Caitlyn's mysterious affliction, the more unsettling details he uncovers. However, he also wonders if he could change what he finds into something healing instead of harmful. Meanwhile, Jayce always seems to be nearby, and their relationship ends up evolving into something neither expected, least of all Viktor. Despite how strong their bond becomes, it will be pushed to the breaking point, but whether or not it snaps remains to be seen.

Viktor has never had the time or inclination to relax. There is always somewhere to be, someone to be speaking with, or something he could be doing. Jayce decides Viktor needs to pick up some of his bad (good) habits.

It’s perfect, their terminal velocity. What they’re hurtling towards, and what they’re running from, Jayce can’t say.

All he knows is: when they hit the ground, it will hurt.

    Summary

So there they are, a shopkeep and a curious stranger, losing daylight in silence. The man studies Jayce’s work while Jayce studies him, and isn’t curiosity just one hell of a thing? It can motivate a topside scientist to brave the gray, and it can bully out years of ingrained wariness to make room for itself.

The man moves again, the necessary three steps left to reach a workbench of works-in-progress. The metalwork of it is rough, all hinges and mechanisms wrought from steel scrap. The beginning of a knee joint, sitting next to the first prototype of Jayce’s own leg brace.

The man’s gaze lingers there, intent and molten in the dimming afternoon light. Then he’s reaching out, reaching forward, his careful fingers tracing along welding seams and scratches in the metal, and Jayce’s curiosity flash-boils.

    Summary

The sound of soft rustling of papers and the scrape of a fountain pen against parchment filled Mel Medarda’s office. The familiar sounds were a nice backdrop  to her menial, methodical work. Her desk of polished mahogany was stacked with dossiers, sign offs, and correspondence– all demanding her attention. Across from her was Jayce Talis, lounging in a chair, an air of boyish charm clashing with the atmosphere. He had wandered in unannounced, seeking companionship, as he was wont to do. His large frame was fitted awkwardly on furniture clearly not designed for him.

Jayce was tinkering with her broken stapler, brow furrowed in mock confusion. Mel knew better than to interrupt; Jayce’s hands were restless when idle, and if repairing a stapler she could easily replace would satisfy him, Mel could endure his presence.

She dipped her pen again, her focus unwavering even as Jayce hummed an off-key tune. A soft click, a frustrated sigh, then another click. The stapler was proving to be a worthy opponent to Mr. Talis.

When her boyfriend regresses in her company, Mel Medarda is forced to confront what she had been ignoring; motherhood.
