Rafayel was the only one who ever asked again. The only one who saw the cracks in the foundation, and then peeked through them. He didn’t just show you the point. He made it so you didn’t even have to look in the first place.)

More often than not he submits himself to the abstract, to smears of color that, according to him, never fully capture what he feels but at least get close enough. Sometimes, he allows himself a landscape here and there. But never a portrait. Never a person. No matter how much someone offers to pay him.
The second is that he refuses to wake up at dawn if he can help it. He’s never told you why. Just that there’s something about the sound of the morning bells that he hates.

His eyes follow you as you sit back to admire your handiwork. It’s not a glare precisely, but it’s not pleased. He’s offended, probably, that you’d be so cruel to incapacitate him like this. He’s already collared, nude, and kneeling on the covers. His hands are restrained in leather cuffs connected to a harness around each thigh. Throw the cat ears in and it’s ridiculous as it is arousing.
Because you can’t help yourself, you say, “Good thing Tara already had a clicker for Percy, right?”
