Summary
Ogata had been willing to die because he was unable to bring himself to kill Vasily. The moment he accepted that reality, his pride as an expert sniper had been tarnished. Vasily knew this because he was in the exact same position. Only, he wasn’t prepared to end it all like Ogata. In fact, he fought like hell to survive their encounter.
Why did he even bother fighting? He didn’t exactly have much to live for, but... he had something. What did Ogata have? Vasily didn’t know him well enough to say, but his actions suggested that the answer to that question was bleak. Did Ogata truly have nothing outside of being a sniper?
Did he have nothing outside of that wildcat persona?

Both Kylo Ren and General Armitage Hux knew what they were. The knowledge that they were expendable subordinates forever licked at their heels. It made them volatile, rash. It made them bitter, especially with each other.
The Supreme Leader watched their petty rivalry with the smugness of a prophet. This was unfolding all too well. As long as those idiots were at each other’s throats, Snoke could rely on them not to overthrow him. So long as they were blinded by their hatred for each other, neither of them would realise it was him pulling the strings. So long as they craved Snoke’s approval, they wouldn't dare defy him. It was almost too perfect.
Until they started bonding.
