There’s Derek’s very normal and completely professional evidence wall.
There’s Erica openly referring to the criminal as Derek’s “murder boyfriend.”
And then there’s Stiles Stilinski.
Chaos gremlin. Sheriff’s son. Chronic trespasser. Flirtatious menace in oversized hoodies who keeps appearing at crime scenes, stealing Derek’s fries, patching him up after bad shifts, and smiling at him like Derek personally hung the moon.
Derek is definitely not in love with either of them.
Unfortunately for his sanity, they turn out to be the same person.

“What day is it?” Derek demanded.
“What?”
“The day! What day is today?!” Derek let Stiles go, but only so he could reach into his pocket and pull out his phone. He tapped at the home screen, and then went so perfectly still that Stiles was pretty sure this guy wasn’t human. No human could stand that still.
When it was clear Derek wasn’t going to move again without some prompting, Stiles said, “It’s Wednesday.”
“That’s impossible,” Derek whispered.
“Not really, it comes around every seven days.”
“This is impossible,” Derek said again, looking around himself, as if he was searching for something.

Cocky fucking bastard. Stiles’ ex-boyfriend is a cocky fucking bastard. He bristles as his eyes scan the words, all too palpably smug, even in text. There is no good goddamn reason that it should have heat pooling in his stomach, his dick twitching with instant interest inside of his boxer shorts, his heart already doing stupid little somersaults at the mere thought of getting to see Derek, of getting to be near him.
Regardless. He’s still out of the apartment and huddled into the backseat of a cab within minutes.
Booty calling your ex-boyfriend might be a bad idea, but it's not like Stiles' heart can break any more than it has already, anyway.
