Mira took in this information as best she could calmly.
Okay, so–her best friend was basically in heat or something? That’s fine, totally normal.
Definitely not aligning well with a few fantasies and porn videos she has stashed away privately.
“Catch me.” she blurted out, cheeks stained red as she felt her heart jump in anticipation “I-If you can catch me, you can–umm, y’know.” she shuttered out explaining, previous bravado gone in the face of a very very needy Viltrumite in the form of her best friend and maybe secret crush for the last forever and a half.
Mark stared at her like she offered him infinity and more.

Look, I'm just trying to keep my coffee black and my lawn intact. That's a tall order when your neighbors are the MacDougals—a family of retired New York mobsters in witness protection. I've learned to deal with the chaos, but I'm still trying to figure out the man watching them: Special Agent Strait McCool.
He's the Mountie. Full uniform, perfect posture, and a rigid, terrifying dedication to protocol. He conducts his surveillance from a majestic white horse, yelling: "For Canada! Where no flower assault goes unpunished!"
He's also dangerously handsome and professionally baffling. He’s supposed to be monitoring organized crime, but he keeps interrupting stakeouts to offer me formal "Standardized Mitigation and Compensation Packages" for everything from crushed lilies to noise violations.
With my best friend Cookie meddling in his operational perimeter, I’m being dragged closer to the Sargeant than is strictly authorized. I just haven't figured out why his official job description includes checking on my welfare with such over-the-top operational enthusiasm.
