Being courted by Lan Wangji had been like receiving the attentions of a particularly large cat. Wei Wuxian had spent the year receiving increasingly ridiculous gifts at the checkpoints he had promised Lan Wangji he’d visit, from new combs to exquisitely bound chapbooks of poetry, to salted meats. His pack, by the end of his journey, was filled near to bursting with these gifts, carefully wrapped, and wholly cherished. Each of them came attached to a note with perfectly neat calligraphy, sometimes with a little thought, usually just with his signature. One of them, pinned to a particularly aromatic bottle of hair oils, read:
‘My Wei Ying,
I hope this finds you well, and serves you well. Would that I could be there next to you. In my absence, I hope this will shorten this distance between us.

Lan Wangji’Of course, he could never have the courage to call it courting. Lan Wangji, surely, was simply being friendly. Very friendly, and very generous.

Summary
Vash has the lung capacity of a man who’s cried for 150 years.
It isn't like Wolfwood takes more than he gives — but like with most things, he barely keeps up with Vash. He works his body to the limit, even as his lungs burn and his legs and arms give out under him. They fuck like they’re on borrowed time.
All of this makes it so easy — so much easier than just talking. Wolfwood would sometimes rather pull new and interesting noises from Vash with just his mouth than do anything else with it. Their own dialect: moans, groans, and four words. “Yes” — “Please” — “Vash” — “Wolfwood.”

If Kyouji stepped foot in there after Satomi had spent multiple weeks fantasizing about Kyouji doing all sorts of stuff to him on pretty much every surface of his apartment he’d probably explode. Lacking the ability to admit that, Satomi instead said, “It’s always so hot at my place this time of year. The windows face the sun while it sets.”
“Alrighty,” Kyouji said brightly. Satomi was surprised, albeit glad, that Kyouji didn’t push him on his obvious lie. “Let’s go, then.”

But this morning, Satomi awoke half-sick and weak. He had class — mock exams. It wasn’t exactly skippable material. He rose from his futon, showered under the — cooler than usual? — spray, brushed his teeth. Had a mild breakfast. Pounded down a pair of ibuprofen and tylenol each (a nursing student he did a group project with last semester had cheerfully told him that’s what she did every time she got sick, and it seemed impressively efficient). Satomi walked out the door.
And stepped into his apartment.
Satomi blinked. Maybe he was just dizzy, or had lost his footing. He turned around, opened the door, and stepped out.
And instead of the outdoors, was greeted by his half-rolled futon, his tiny kitchenette.
Satomi was stubborn. He tried it another, then five more times. By the end he was red-faced and sweaty. His glasses slipped down the bridge of his nose as he leaned forward to wheeze. “Do you mind,” he growled, into the empty apartment.
The floorboards groaned.

Shifting to adjust Kyouji's arm a little where it's draped heavily over his shoulder, Satomi flips the page of his economics textbook. He's not really paying attention to what's on the page, but if Kyouji's going to make sad faces at him until he studies, then Satomi's going to do it pressed against his side on the couch of his Tokyo high rise no matter how little actual studying gets done.
Kyouji looks up from where he's scrolling one-handed on his phone. "Hmm?" he asks, his arm flexing a little around Satomi's shoulder.
"Nothing," Satomi says. "Just getting comfortable."

Even if the boss is dead, Satomi is half sure Kyouji won’t remember his promise to quit. He never really even made a promise, it was nothing but speculation. And Satomi is not here for that anyway, he has already begged Kyouji enough times.
He just wants to see Kyouji one more time, to get him out of his system. This one last song, and they’ll both be free to live their lives however they choose. Satomi will be able to go back to normalcy, for good.
Another reunion, 14 years later.

Kyouji’s features tightened — an aborted flinch of his mouth — before he relaxed his jaw against his palm. “Satomi-kun...” He began to say. That false smile of his returned as he said, “Would you believe me if I said I got roped into king crab fishing off the coast for four years?"
Satomi’s mouth twisted. “No.” He spoke around another forkful of salty-sweet food. “Did you?”
“Maybe.” That grin widened. It didn’t reach his eyes.
Asshole, Satomi thought. Get lost at sea, then. See if I care.
Having exploded whatever future he could have had in Tokyo, Satomi finds himself back in Osaka — and through a dazzling set of horrible mistakes, finds himself chasing Kyouji.
