“What are you doing here?” she asks, her voice incredulous, and she doesn’t move from inside the door, a good five paces away from him still, as though she is debating simply turning tail and running.
He blinks, surprised. “What am I doing here?” he echoes. “Bree, what are you doing here?”
In true Bree fashion, she purposefully misinterprets.
“They told me family was here, and I wanted to come in case…maybe one of the kids…” She closes her eyes briefly and huffs out a laugh, a bitter, brittle sound. “No,” she corrects herself, “I didn’t think it was one of the kids. I don’t know what I thought. Maybe that’s why I really came. Morbid curiosity.” She finally sits down across from him, tucking her hair behind her ears. Almost right away, her attention to drawn to the small zen garden that serves at the table centerpiece, and she chuckles darkly. “Would you believe they have these everywhere here?” she says, and she picks up the rake, dragging it across the sand in neat, deliberate, remarkably straight lines. Of course.

Summary
Olivia does not believe in parallel universes, does not believe in fate or destiny. She can’t, working the job that she does – it is too much, to think that all that pain, that the worst of humanity, could all somehow be preordained. It feels like a cop-out, an excuse, a reason to throw one’s hands up and say, 'there was nothing we could do, it was meant to be.'
She reminds herself of this, when she feels the inevitability of it all pushing down on her, careening toward her like an out of control train – of this man, here, of all that he is to her and all that he could be.

Summary
Her therapist asked her once what she thought drew her to 'this type' of man. At the time Lenore had been insulted, at the notion that Bryan and Stuart were the same 'type', at the implication that she sought out danger. Now, though, she wonders if there isn't a darkness in her that looks for that same darkness in others. Maybe they're all the same 'type' after all. (3rd movie AU)
