Everyone froze, full on proper froze. Joel himself included. Pearl, even though she was the one who had spoken, was also still as ice.
Scott, (who recovered first), promptly stood up next to Pearl, put his hands on her shoulders, slowly pulled her back into her seat, gave her his cup of hot chocolate, made sure she had a good grip on the cup, told them he was ordering more chocolate and other sweets and walked away to do just that.

When Scar hadn’t been transported to the Winner’s Space after Secret Life, Grian hadn’t thought that much of it. He didn’t want to meddle too much.
Surely it was a fluke, he’d told himself. It’ll be fixed by the end of the next game.
And he had truly believed that.
Now, after Wild Life, he simply watches in horror as Joel appears—and yet Scar still fails to.
