Daeron swore under his breath, trying to lean away from him. “Did what hurt?” he snapped, a little meaner this time, shoving Aerion away with more force. “The bite, or—or—” His face reddened like an apple, and Aerion laughed loudly.
“You did it and you can’t even say it!” he cackled.
Daeron only frowned. “I did nothing,” he said thinly. “It was done to me, and—and—” Once more he could not bring himself to speak. His older brother, as weak and skittish as a mewling kitten.
“Did you bleed?” Aerion asked instead, adding a little more cruelty to his tone, because his brother’s eyes were watering and Aerion loved when he cried. Daeron's face would swell, his eyes would glisten, and he almost looked beautiful—like one of them, instead of the dullness he usually wore. “Did you cry?”
Daeron just looked at him, sighing a little. “You are a little monster, a wretched thing,” he said, but he sounded more tired than mad now.
“You will not be so bold when it is your turn.”

Aerion spoke as though the alpha had said nothing. “I met with the maester once more,” he said lowly. “And he said he can not brew me anything stronger. My body has begun to resist the herbs.”
“Bad luck, that is,” Daeron says, not sounding particularly sorry at all. “Tis what happens when an unmated omega gets older. Father will have to find you a match soon.”
Hopefully someone old and hideous who takes you far away from here, he thinks meanly.
Aerion has a peculiar expression on his face. “I don’t think it will come to that.”
