Summary
First, let’s set the scene. Following the death of Kaede Akamatsu, the Super High-School Level Pianist, the boy known as Shuichi Saihara had fallen into a…slump? No, not quite. He was still moving, person to person, room to room, peaceful in the vacant space between murders…so if I were to describe it, I’d say he was having a bit of an identity crisis. I mean, you’ve seen him, right? He’s miserable and dainty, but he took off that unappealing hat. That just has to count for something. As for me, I’ve been watching him! I know all these things about him after all, it should have been obvious from the get go.
I know all about him, in the same way one knows all about those minding a shop he visits, which is to say, not at all. It’s a shame, but either way I’m just glad I’m keeping it all together. Seriously, it’s not every day you see a friend die. Especially not a beaming, golden girl like the genius pianist Kaede Akamatsu. I never even got to hear her play.
Though I would have just mocked her.

Summary
His eyes were cold, framed by the window pane, square-cut glass. He was held up in rigidity, kept from breaking by the strings that puppeteered him, controlled by what he couldn’t see, but feel. Grandfather hadn’t been around much recently and he kind of missed it, the lilt of his smile and smoothness of his brow, an eternal plastic youth which was a novelty he’d never inherit, looping and twisting, like all the little discrepancies he noticed in grandfather’s placid face, it was all too quiet and when it started raining he sighed with relief, a faint sound streaked with distortion. It was a little like looking up at the sky, that vague untouchable vastness painted by the weather and so distant, but he didn’t want it close, not really, because to get that high he’d have to become somebody something different, and he needed to protect them. He would stay.

Summary
Perhaps the greatest thing about being the Ultimate Supreme Leader - that's Almighty King to you - was the abstraction of it all. Pretty much everyone else was so much narrower than he was, working within clear rule sets and limitations. The average person nothing but another machine on the production line, but him above all that, seeing the framework as exactly what it was: a cage.
If you know how people work and you don't get caught up in ethics, you can get them to do pretty much anything you feel like, scot freaking free. Well, being the best is pretty isolating, but that comes with the territory.
None of this accounted for physical space. If we're talking actual cages, Kokichi Ouma is totally screwed, so standing right here, right now, he was trapped in an elevator shaft with Byakuya Togami.

Summary
One time, on holiday with his parents, Saihara had been looking over the ocean. The sky was matted with grey clouds and the water folded and layered into itself without rhythm. He was watching it, he didn't know how long for, and something about it shifted like a wall had been broken down and there was nothing to stop him from falling through.
Sometimes he imagined that there'd been a tsunami, that the sea had ran backwards into the horizon then rushed back to consume him with its cold weight, with the horsepower of God’s strength and the apathy of immortality.
The water had been murky, and endless, and when he'd watched it, he hadn't been thinking anything at all.

Essentially me trying to explore how Shuichi would have developed if he'd first formed a relationship with Kokichi instead of Kaede, and wasn't trapped in the killing game.

Silly author's not a true Londoner...they don't know that the "tube" comes too frequently to have issues with punctuality, to the point that you don't even need to check a schedule beforehand. It does stop in the nasty, coal-filled tunnels pretty often, but that isn't the norm. Tut tut.
Otherwise though this seems pretty promising; hope they finish it.

Sua knows what she likes, on an aesthetic level: Mizi’s collarbones peeking out from beneath the loose robe, draped in pink; the elegant bridge of her nose and the round spectacles perched atop it; the light and lively iridescence of her voice. Ivan’s stately shoulders couldn’t be more of an antithesis.

One of my favourite fics, not for any particular justifiable reason...it's just special to me, y'know? Like the melody of a nostalgic song, or the first breath you take in the morning, or losing something and being left with just the memories. None of those things make sense, but you cling to them anyway.

Weirdly, despite being het this is one of my favourite queer stories I've read. It does such a perfect job capturing the internal conflict of the innate pride of love and self expression and the knowledge that a lot of people will never see your experiences as genuine human ones. The aesthetic too, is lovely.
