He knows, Neuvillette thinks. Yes, the Duke knows more than he lets on and that is dangerous. But Neuvillette will not confirm it.
He freezes, Sovereigns, he freezes for a little longer than he wanted to and takes a drawn breath, and exhales slowly. “I am,” He pauses for a split second, “unaware of these problems you speak of, Wriothesley.” A lie so obvious Neuvillette could not believe he even let the words flow out of his mouth.
“Yes. . I suppose when you drown in solitude, outside perception does weather away.”
Drowning? Him? The Hydro Sovereign? What ever could that possibly mean? That had to be one of the Duke’s famous jokes. “Are you suggesting that I am no longer in my right mind?”
“No,” he pressed, “I’m suggesting you let me drown with you, Neuvillette.”
“. .I beg your pardon?”
OR
Neuvillette has always had trouble understanding human emotions, especially when he starts feeling some of his own. So, when the Duke of Meropeide starts visiting him with some sort of expectation in his eyes, Neuvillette does not know how to deal with that.

Past the dirt coming off his face Ren cracks an eye open and beholds Ashveil, his brows knitted together in a tight little knot of affection and disbelief.
Ashveil looks at him through the section of hair falling over his face, unsure of what he must look like with steam blowing in his face.
“You’re so beautiful,” Ren croaks. He bites his lip, enough to draw blood, and licks it all up in a way that makes it seem like he hadn’t meant to do all that. “Are you my deliverance?”
Oh and his eyes—they’re hopeful.
Ashveil is in a dress and Ren is just a man.

Yanqing dies in Scalegorge Waterscape, despite Dan Heng's best attempts to save him. Jing Yuan manages to be there for his final moments, and goes through what every parent fears most.

Summary
La Mancha was the Lead Hunter of the Galaxy Rangers. He was the one who dealt the killing blow to Lord Ravager Zulo, the one who tore and gnawed at his enemies without mercy. Even after fading into obscurity, there are those who continue to look for him—for better or for worse.
Ashveil is the Ashen Detective of Planarcadia, led only by intuition and a wish for retirement. He knows the truth about La Mancha: he died after consuming Zulo, and all the letters and knocks at his door won't change that. He's a wolf without a pack now, no matter how many wolf cubs use their pleading eyes on him.
That is, of course, until he gets to know the cubs of the Astral Express. But is he the one adopting them, or are they adopting him?

For all the light in Planarcadia, shadows still clung to the pungent alleys with a strength that could never be scrubbed clean. Ashveil knew those shadows in a way he could never know matters of the heart or tantalizing smiles or the moments they tried to steal together. He knew his way around vengeance better than he knew his way around romance. Perhaps that was why he tried to pull away into the shadows of his work...right until his romance and his work collided into one.
(Or, Ashveil's attempts to keep his new lovers at arm's length goes horribly awry and teaches him that a person can sometimes be the reason for the hunt.)

Summary
Blade breathed in and then out, slightly ragged. His grip tightened… then loosened, to something desperate instead of violent, and Dan Heng could feel the way the other man trembled, ever so slightly. Or maybe it was the both of them, for different reasons.
Neither Blade nor Dan Heng could have ever expected to be in each other’s company as Fulwish’s plot rages on in the background, and certainly neither expected that company to be helpful. An inexplicable and unknown change turned the once-volatile combination into something capable of quieting the mara. In the process of deciphering this change, more discoveries are made along the way. The past cannot be removed or forgotten, but it can be laid to rest and smelted, to forge something anew.
