Summary
So, it's been four and a half years since Stormz last heard from Dumb, and it's been three years since Stormz's hope for him succumbed to probability assessment, and Stormz is trying very hard not to think about either of those things, because he has a fight in half an hour. He can't afford to be distracted.
On the almost-anniversary of admitting to himself that his best friend is almost certainly dead, Stormz is scheduled for a match. The fact that his ghosts are haunting him the most they have in months surely means nothing at all.

The air’s heavy with the weight of everything there is to say, but his breath is stubbornly caught in his chest, throat choked with half-formed words. Above them, the moon watches on, quiet, gentle, and just judgmental enough to sink in.
“I’m glad you came,” Dumb begins, tension giving way with a hesitant sigh.
The words are loaded. Stormz doesn’t even think to decipher them before he replies, “Of course. What else could I have done?"
After the worst five years of their lives, Dumb asks Stormz to talk. Ghosts lingering heavy, reconciliation won't erase history, but maybe they still have a chance at something new.

Something rooted deeply in his chest, almost like grief was wrapping his organs with its vines, entwined with his blood vessels. A feeling that bloomed in his chest the more he thought about it, a mixture of regret and shame that he couldn’t be up to Stormz’s expectations, a silent sense of doubt that Stormz even saw him as anything more than a tool to begin with.

Saparata stood out to Flux because he looked gentle.
A perpetually chill look that clashed heavily with his Luminaran armor and diamond sword. Matched with snowy white hair, pale skin, and warm grey eyes. He looked more like an angel than a soldier.
Flux sometimes felt his eyes wander to that guard on their breaks. Watching him explore their nest of tunnels, watching him kindly unwrap lunch packs for older miners like he was Mother-fucking Teresa.
