Maybe Jaskier didn't think this through all the way.
It all still made perfect sense while he was making the trek into the forest to the ritual site of the old god.
From what the locals said and the stories Jaskier researched, the fertility god was used to making pacts with mortals, though everyone really was very vague on exactly what sort of offering the god was known to accept in return for his blessing...

Jaskier has zero intention of sharing the degrading experience of getting tortured. Ever. He’ll bury the memories and someday they’ll be as scabbed over as Caingorn was.
Which had been completely, absolutely, fine. And the only reason that wound is bleeding a little now is because fucking Geralt came out of nowhere—after the most humiliating experience of his entire life—and reopened the fucking thing. But that’s fine because he’ll leave and return to the terror of his smuggling work and forget about Geralt all over again. There’s nothing hard drink and the constant danger of execution won’t get his mind off. Because there’s something therapeutic about fearing for one’s life that makes anything not of immediate concern go away.
So yes, things were just fine before Geralt showed up.
Two years post-Caingorn, Geralt rescues Jaskier from prison and sends him with Ciri to Kaer Morhen. However, Geralt suspects Jaskier is hiding serious trauma.

“Geralt!” he called. There was no response. Taking a deep breath, he rounded a corner and looked into the courtyard where he thought the probably-magic had taken place.
The sight that greeted him was… not what he expected.
For one thing, there was no particularly unusual wreckage or carnage. There was no sign of a fight. The courtyard, in fact, was completely unoccupied — except for a large, yellow something beside a heap of stones right in the center.
When Geralt finds himself entangled in a magical mishap, Jaskier is prepared to save him as usual. What he is not prepared for is the sheer strangeness (and sliminess) of the situation— nor the feelings that it will force him to reveal.

From the prompt:
Tired of being harassed by his friends and family about not settling down, Jaskier blurts out that he has a boyfriend. A boyfriend who is a soldier deployed overseas. Who? they ask. Why Geralt de Rivia, his bff Yennefer's ex and lauded hero. Didn't you see the article online about him? Yes, I know he only grunted when asked if he was seeing anyone, but hey, that's his Geralt.
Cue Geralt receiving the strangest care package ever, from a name that is vaguely familiar. Inside are all his favorite snacks and a love letter from a complete stranger (who was clearly quite intoxicated when he read it).
After a call to Yennefer (the only name he could cobble together from the terrible handwriting) for interpretation, he comes to understand he's being asked to send a Dear John letter to her college bestie Jaskier, who is pretending he has a boyfriend overseas. The reason for the breakup? Jaskier blabbering about their relationship when Geralt had asked him not to.
