Summary
“I don’t care, I want you here.”
Regulus melts a bit at that, letting the grip his arms have on his books loosen just a little bit. His mouth opens and closes a few times before he chooses his words. He hates talking about this, and James knows this. The wound of Sirius’ dismissal is still fresh, still bleeding, red pooling around his ankles.
“I’m not about to let you ruin your relationship with Sirius”
His voice is quiet, a whisper. James stands up from the bed, all signs of sleep gone from his face as he looks at Regulus seriously, his forehead coming down until it rests against Regulus’. Their breath mixes in a warm mixture of air and Regulus tries not to let his mind grow fuzzy at the proximity.
“I care about this relationship too, Regulus”

Summary
Sirius is imagining a billion things - James, bleeding and hurt. Someone in their living room. Whatever terrible things there could possibly be, they all run through his head so quickly one after another it's almost all at once.
What he does not expect…
Is Regulus. Regulus, bleeding and hurt, heaving and gasping with hands shaking against James' chest and arms, laid sideways against his chest as if --
As if it's familiar, really.

Regulus shows up at the Potters' house bleeding and hurt, which reveals something about James' relationship with him to Sirius.
Sirius has a hard time accepting many things, from Regulus being here to him and James being a thing.
Horrible truths are discovered, and in the end, Sirius could never really let go of caring for Regulus, even when he tried so hard to.
