Summary
After nearly being kidnapped and no one believing him, Will Byers decides to make a change. He strips his room of posters and hides his art supplies under his bed. And shockingly? It works. He makes more and more new friends, but loses his best ones since they’re too busy with the weird new girl in town.
But whatever, he doesn’t care. It doesn’t matter that his mom and Jonathan always stop talking when he’s in the room, or that the new girl is now his step-sister even though his mom won’t tell him how she and Hopper met. He’s moved on with his life, after all, he’s in high school now. And Will Byers is something no one believed he could ever be. Popular.
But after so long, why is everyone suddenly trying to reconnect with him?

The Demogorgon didn’t succeed in taking Will that night, and when he tried to tell anyone, no one believed him. As his family and friends slowly get pulled into trying to stop Vecna, Joyce insists that they don’t involve him.
They never move to California, and Will drifts further away, becoming popular and hanging out with Chance and Andy. With Vecna opening gates all around Hawkins, Joyce decides it’s finally time to talk to him. But is it already too late?

Summary
In the end, it doesn’t matter. None of it fucking matters. Because what’s really in control is the tension. This elusive string tied between their chests that’s always changing length. Right now it’s so short and taught and strong that Will can’t imagine resisting it. So really, it was never a matter of if he would. Just when. When will he fold? When will he let go and let himself follow Mike into the water?
He dares to glance down at his knees, where he can see Mike’s fingers peeking out from behind his calves (as if he needed that visual reminder that they’re touching), and then back up to meet Mike’s expectant gaze.
He’s going to do it. He’s such a fucking idiot.

Mike & Will have a long overdue conversation on the way back to Hawkins— by, in, and around a random motel pool.

“Okay!” Will cut her off, embarrassed beyond belief. “Sure. Fine. Jesus. I don’t know! It’s not like that, though.”
The thing was, he had sort of noticed it too. But he’d thought it was just the world sliding back to place, righting itself as Mike began acting like he did back when they were kids, back when he was Mike’s favorite. This was how things used to be. This was how Will liked it, anyways—Mike’s undivided attention.
“It doesn’t have to mean anything,” Will whispered. He thought, well, maybe he didn’t notice anything because he didn’t want to.
“He’s sweet on you, though,” Jane said.

Summary
It's not jealousy. Adrian is adamant about that. They are actually insisting that it’s not any emotion at all. Not even dislike. They are simply completely uninterested in anything that concerns “the human”.
Rocky believes them. Adrian has always been the level-headed one out of the two of them. They are too logical to be jealous. They acknowledge that Grace and Rocky have a special bond after everything they went through together and also understand that none of that will ever pose a threat to their relationship.
Neither are they heartless or ungrateful. They know that Grace is the only reason that Rocky is back at all, the only reason their star has stopped dying. Adrian has told Rocky again and again that they are grateful and happy and wish the alien no ill will. They even helped with the construction of the biodome.
And yet they have no desire to get to know Grace.

Point was, Mike Wheeler liked to be needed.
And Will Byers?
Well…
Will swallows, eyes focused pointedly on Mike’s long, slender fingers. The way they twist and they pull, fixing the broken strap to Will’s backpack.
Will Byers loved when Mike fixed things for him.
It was becoming a problem.
He didn’t mean to start doing it, but it just… happened. Maybe he was using Mike’s kindness against him, but it was difficult not to, and Will couldn’t feel too badly about it when Mike looked down at him with lidded eyes, one hand dragging up along Will’s side, voice sweet. “Better?”
“Yeah,” Will murmurs, grabbing the bag with trembling fingers. “Yeah, it’s better.”
Or, Will comes up with a plan that could benefit the both of them. Mike gets to be a hero in every day life, and Will? He gets to have Mike's attention.
