Kamado Tanjiro was the boy women prayed their sons became. He was gentle-handed and soft-spoken. He was a child with a sunlit soul. He loved selling charcoal to the villagers and making them smile. He loved his family too, more than anything.
But everything he loved was taken away in one night. The only one who survived was Nezuko, the eldest daughter, the sibling he shared responsibilities with, who was now demonic. Something inside him broke that day.
Tanjiro could not let Nezuko die, and he was going to survive in whatever means necessary to ensure they both remain fed. He could smell humans from every corner, and his sister was hungry. Maybe while they looked for help, he would allow a few causalities. What else could he have done?

Nezuko descends the mountain that fateful day. When she returns to her brother turned into a demon and their family murdered, it is Kochou Kanae, not Tomioka Giyuu, who finds them. Kanae looks at the pair of them: a tear-stained girl with fire in her eyes and a bloodied demon with desperation in his, and thinks maybe this is what I've been waiting for.
Three years later, Giyuu and Sabito meet a girl with sakura-coloured eyes and a serene smile at Final Selection, accompanied by her older brother.
Some time after that, Michikatsu Tsugikuni learns of a demon slayer with a white sword, of a demon with a black one, and he begins to wonder.

While Senjuro flourishes Kyojuro must decide whether or not he wants to join Tengen's marriage. Things only start getting more complicated when they start taking in kids (read: Tengen just straight up kidnaps a few). Or a fix-it where Kyojuro lives and the kids in Demon Slayer actually get people that care about them and a little bit of a chance at a semi-normal childhood.

Summary
Tanjirou Kamado and his sister Nezuko Kamado grew up under the care of the Ubuyashiki family after being orphaned in an accident at a young age. While they were given the option to leave the temple once they were old enough, they chose to stay. The Ubuyashiki family had given them so much, it only felt fair they repay it somehow.
They start out as attendants for the Water God's Saint, but things flip upside down by pure coincidence and accident—and their roles are changed.

Tanjirou and Nezuko both liked the color red. It could have a nice deep and rich shade to it, or be soft and gentle. They weren't bothered everytime their home's floor stained with deep red splatters and smelled like iron.
It was normal to them, something that happened regularly. It was comforting even.

Ever since their older sister, Tsutako, sacrificed herself to protect them both from a demon attack when they were children, Giyuu had taken on the responsibility of taking care of Nezuko with all his heart. He would be the strong and loving older brother that Nezuko needed.
Not long after the tragedy that struck the Tomioka household, a man named Urokodaki Sakonji —an alpha of average height wearing a red tengu mask and a blue cloud-patterned jinbei — took both cubs under his wing and cared for them as his own.
