It was almost two years ago now, but the jury’s still out on whether it was worth it.
I did first-year—all of the politics, death, idiots, dragons—twice. Being joined by the children of the rebellion was the only reason I made it through the second time, which means I should be grateful for the unforeseen variable that was Xaden Riorson. The variable that turned distance into loyalty, logic into want, control into chaos, and survival into a group project nobody asked for. The team effort worked for us last year—but we have two more to go, and I can already see where the equation ends.
I've done the math. Falling for Xaden Riorson will ruin everything—including me. I know better.
Unfortunately, knowing better has never quite managed to stop me.

Xaden Riorson has known Avari Solaris her entire life. With him learning to take over his father's kingdom, she was by his side through every moment learning to serve as his royal advisor. At least that's what it was before Navarre ruined it all. Separated for roughly four years, raises the question, have things changed between them? Probably not, but she can't help but worry maybe it has changed. Either way Conscription Day was going to bring answers, and the chance to finish what their parents died for.
Navarre should have known better than to have kept the Prince of Tyrrendor and the last Solaris apart, because as anyone who knew them could tell you. They would tear the world apart to reach each other's side.

Considering how her mother also committed suicide in remorse for her association with the great rebel, Fen Riorson and Tyrrendor— General Melgren wanting her dead would not be a far stretch.
