The battle was long and hard fought, but in the end, they won. Izuku Midoriya had defeated Shigark- no, Tenko Shimura with the help of the previous users of his quirk.
However, that victory came with a cost. His body, unable to keep up with the stress it was under, finally collapsed after the battle was over.
And in his last moments, he thought... maybe now, with all of them safe... he could finally rest..

Nico falls back into hell, again. This time it's worse, so much worse. Now he's stuck with his pathetic, unrequited crush that also hates him, on the brink of death, and being hunted down by Nyx, Tartarus, Eris etc.
TLDR: Percy goes through Tartarus with Nico instead of Annabeth.

Percy’s sword clattered against the stone tiles. The tip of Nico’s own was steadied mere inches from his throat.
Nico was breathing wildly.
Here’s the thing about sword-fighting. You don’t really know if you made a good move, especially with beginners. But you just knew if you nailed a perfect move. And that disarming thing Nico did right back there was a perfect move.
He lowered his sword. He didn’t even realize he was smiling broadly until the corners of his mouth twitched and his jaw ached. He looked up eagerly to Percy, seeking the elder demigod’s approval at the brilliant performance even though he would never admit wanting the approval to his last living breath.
His smile faltered. The frizzing happiness paused.
Percy was not smiling, nor was there any sign of approval in his features. His sea-green eyes that always glinted with life were a murky green swamp of……fear.Set directly after BoTL and before TLO, if Nico had stayed a little more at Camp and got sword lessons from Percy. During one of those sessions something triggered Percy and he fled the scene, and later apologized and explained himself, and basically all other things that happened here and there.
