Long ago, when Yeji had first met Ryujin, had first travelled through the mountains in search of something better, the cabins surrounding Ryujin’s dilapidated one had been in a war against the wendigos that were roaming across the land, feasting on whatever flesh they could find, causing terror like nothing anyone had ever seen. It had taken a lot of teamwork, a treaty or two that were still in effect to this day, but eventually the evil creatures had been decimated until only a handful remained.
They are no friend to any and if you can’t kill it, you run and hope it’s not fast enough to catch you.

After many decades of cold silence from a once great enemy, Ryujin and the other mountain spirits have been feeling a change in the air. Which is great news for everyone involved, except maybe his lawyer, but he won't live long enough to mourn the lack of extra money lining his pockets because JYP left behind five children. All adopted (although adopted is used in the loosest legal sense of the word in this case), all trained up in his ways. Murderous, thieving, and dishonest, though never impolite.
Bang Chan never wanted the throne. Unfortunately, any other claim to said throne is a threat to the legitimacy of another's reign, which means even if he refuses to fight, he and those close to him are as good as dead. That gives him only one option: to secure his father's legacy and take out his siblings before they took out him.
Simple.
For that, he needed a team.
Not so simple, apparently.

Summary
Chan’s been saving babies out of the river for as long as Changbin’s known him. Little ones, sent down the river in black baskets that indicate to people that they’re less than, deemed unfit for regular society. Doomed to death in a way Chan has vehemently claimed worse than what he saw in his travels before he settled here, eyes sparking with bright anger that makes the flowers in the flowerboxes lining the windows close up and hide their faces until the storm passes.
Changbin never imagined that his life would end up like this, working alongside Chan to save children from their fates, hovering in a world between worlds. But he also would never change it, even if he was given the chance to.
