    Jiang Cheng knew it was wrong when he did it. He lied to himself that it would be all right if he did it – that he was the safest one to do it, a Jiang clan member of the main line and a virgin male, no less; if worst came to worst, he could always piss on the evil creature and send them running away.

    He pretended that it made it all right, the way he broke into the secret part of the library and looked at the forbidden Jiang sect scrolls - the way he studied up on the mysterious technique - and still worse, the name of the ghost he decided to summon...he lied to himself, but he knew the truth. He knew every moment that he did it that he was a despicable person, wrong in every conceivable way, awful and selfish and mean. 

    But when Wei Changze appeared in the center of the array, a faint smile on his lips that looked so much like Wei Wuxian’s, a smile aimed at Jiang Cheng…well, Jiang Cheng couldn’t bring himself to regret what he’d done.
