Summary
Until the day Sokka died, he knew he'd remember the cool gaze of the leopard-caribou as she looked upon him in his bank of snow. It hadn't been a malicious look, just a calculating one. She needed a meal, and she cared no more whether or not he was afraid than he’d cared whether the seal his father brought back from the beach in spring had felt fear before it died.
The stranger in the water had eyes like that now.
Sokka finds himself shipwrecked, stranded with no way home. When an impossible predator shows up to take advantage of an easy meal, Sokka must use all his wits to keep him distracted... and survive long enough to get back home for his sister's wedding.

Summary
The thing about Leo Hawke was, he was violent. He was surly. He was as blunt as a rock through a window. He punched a rock monster possessed by a demon in the - face? - in the Deep Roads and it certainly was the most Hawke thing Anders had ever seen.
Anders didn't mind. He'd never claimed to be perfect. But Anders wasn't sure he could agree with their other friends that he was particularly angry.

Summary
Anders must be hearing things. "Your mother wants you to bring me to a party?"
Hawke winces. "Not quite," he says, because Anders' life cannot be that simple. "Mother wants me to bring a lady companion. She has a list. I thought I'd rather go with - a friend."
"A friend," Anders says flatly.
In which Hawke needs a pretend-date to the Viscount's birthday ball, and Anders won't turn down the opportunity for free food and some relative alone time with his good friend of the last two years - the man he definitely, positively, absolutely isn't in love with. After all, how bad can it be?

Summary
Sokka’s eyebrow rose. A smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth. What was he up to? Zuko’s breath hitched; his fingers dug into the lotus silk of his robe. He had never quite managed to become immune to Sokka’s charms. A playful brown hand reached into the bag and pulled out—
Well, Zuko wasn’t sure what it was.
Sokka gives Zuko a maths lesson.

Zukki Week 2023 Day 6: Political complications
“Ugh. You.” One fan came spinning out and lodged itself into the pillar beside his head. “Make it fast.”
Sokka stepped out from the gloom. “What did you think you were doing with the Fire Lord yesterday?”
“Sparring.”
“After that? When you plastered yourself all over him?”
“Oh,” said Suki delicately, “I didn’t realise you own him.”
After a protracted civil war, the victorious new Fire Lord sends a call for a new bodyguard across the four nations. A Southern Water Tribesman and a warrior from Kyoshi Island respond.

Summary
“Did you know that it takes eight minutes for light from the sun to reach the earth?”
“Eight minutes isn’t that long.”
“That’s not the point.” Sokka feels a wave of numbness engulfing his very being. “It means that on Earth, all the sunlight we see—it was actually sunlight from eight minutes ago. Which means that you could be talking to me, ten minutes or ten years from the past or the future and I would never know.
“Because I don’t even know where you are.”

Summary
Sokka's expression is caught somewhere between determined and pissed off when he says, “I know you think this is your responsibility. But you’re not going to be alone in this. This is why we’re building you a council.”
“I know,” Zuko says.
“And the only way you’re going to die having done nothing but sit in meetings is if you let yourself do that. You’re not a bad leader if you take a break now and then.”
Zuko scowls. “What, so people can then say at least my father wasn’t lazy?”
Sokka tilts his head. “Don’t you think there’s a difference between laziness and, I don’t know, choosing life and happiness in spite of a terrible dad who tried to take both from you?”
----------
Zuko is sixteen years old when he’s handed a crown, a throne, and a hundred-year ancestral legacy of colonial imperialism. He’s not scared of the work; he’s scared of being consumed by the responsibilities and burdens he’s claimed. What Zuko doesn’t quite realize, yet, is that he’s not alone in this.
