And he’s laughing. He hasn’t stopped laughing, not once— that is, at least every time Regulus manages to look up at least. But not to him— he’s not smiling to him— not to his poor little brother, but to him— James. James. Fleamont. Fucking. Potter. Who also happens to be laughing, head thrown back and everything. Big and bright and too much.
And you see, when James Potter laughs, the skies open up and the heavens smile, and it fills his entire being— you could practically see it, like his skin can barely contain the laughter pouring out of him.
He hates it.
OR
When Regulus is, in fact, having the worst year of his life, he also has to come to terms with the fact that, maybe, hate and jealousy aren’t the real reasons his eyes keep finding his brothers best friend.
