Summary
Carlos hadn’t seen TK in months. Yes, he had held vigil at his bedside for days following his last trip to West Park Memorial’s ICU, even though the pair had broken up on bad terms. Though when TK woke up, confused and agitated by his presence, his heart rate not stabilizing due to the stress, Carlos got up, walked out, and never looked back. It was a rash and emotional decision on his part, sure, but he didn’t want to cause TK any more distress than the cardiac arrest(s) and the cop’s presence at his bedside had caused. Nancy had said TK had wanted him there? “What a crock of shit,” Carlos thought to himself as he ran past the security guard, past the coffee cart lady, past the two shitty nurses who TK had recently defied by staying and being alive, holding tears back. Carlos felt like more of a shmuck than ever.
So why was he back at West Park? It turns out Carlos’s firefighter-turned-paramedic-turned-love-of-his-life-turned-ex-boyfriend never updated his emergency contact after all this time, meaning Carlos was called to the hospital due to TK being admitted, the reason not disclosed to him on the call he received mid-shift.

I just binged this whole story and what a ride! I loved it, all the medical and mental crises, the way Carlos was always there for my boy TK, the way Carlos called Owen on his shit, the loving kindnesses of the hospital staff (I hope they were indeed invited to the wedding!), just an amazing and thrilling story. I’m almost glad, per your notes on chap 21, that you felt you rushed the final chapters — not that I could tell — I’m not sure I could’ve handled anything else happening to TK! ❤️❤️❤️can’t say it enough. Thx for writing!

Oh this was the cutest thing ever. Carlos’s headstrong control freak issues collide with TK’s headstrong free range chaos! I think Carlos put his finger right on it when he said TK loves surprises because the constant begging is all part of the fun lol. Got you, TK! Loved that TK picked the sad little Charlie Brown tree, because of course he would. So many enticing details — how big a deal decorating a tree was in the Reyes household, TK’s turning every convo into a critical mass of double entendres, the tiny little dig at Owen. TK’s tantrum over Carlos micromanaging and rearranging the tree was entire righteous! Now I’m left wondering about Marjan’s and TK’s matching outfits 🤔. I’m sure they will be glittery and spectacular! Thx for writing! ❤️

Summary
TK and Carlos (aka Santa Claus) might be even more excited than four-year-old Jonah about their first Christmas as a family of three, but a phone call with Enzo reveals something from the past that causes TK to spiral over what could have been. With Carlos, Owen, Andrea and Jonah all putting their arms around him, TK holds on extra tight to everything he loves.
When they arrived to bring Jonah home, he was waiting for them in the school foyer, standing in the looming shadow of Governess Burgin who would not let him run to them. Carlos, in his snow-pocked coat and wet boots, got down on his knees and told Jonah everything was going to be alright. His brown eyes glittered – and TK saw it. By looking at each other, they could see the future. They could touch it. Warm hugs, tears, lessons, thriving. In that moment – on the floor of a school in snowy Switzerland, there were two fathers in the making and a little boy who would grow up to tell everyone he knew: “My papas – they’re my best friends.” It was all there.
And it's all here, now, with Carlos wearing this old, musty, silly Santa Claus outfit that Gabriel Reyes got at discount, bargaining his way through a garage sale in 1995.

Insane though it is, the first thought that comes to mind is that he can’t die right now, because he has dishes to wash.

I just so enjoy your style of writing. So entertaining!
Some sentences that really made me smile were: “He counts it as a personal victory that he manages words, rather than incoherent screaming.”
And this exchange:
“Anyway,” she composes herself. “Let’s get you out of here to be dumb another day.”
“I’m sure my family would appreciate that.” Or at least, Carlos would appreciate the opportunity to kill TK himself.
And really, so many other phrases,it was hard to pick just a couple 😊
You fooled me with this!
“TK has glanced at the return address on the box and hurriedly shoved it onto the top shelf”
I was thinking, was this a bomb too? Thankfully, no, but I hope TK was able to be quiet!😉
Thx for writing ❤️
